The CloudMonitor Analytics Engine is the “smarts” and AI behind your cost insights. It extracts and analyzes your cost data and prepares it for reporting in Power BI. It is free to install from the Microsoft Azure Marketplace and installs into one of your Azure Subscriptions.
Note: Sign in to Microsoft Azure Marketplace with your work or school account to download CloudMonitor Analytics engine.
Step 1: Go to Microsoft Azure marketplace
Go to Microsoft Azure marketplace and download CloudMonitor Analytics Engine by clicking on "Get It Now".
Step 2: Choose your plan
Select the "Always Free" plan to try out CloudMonitor for as long as you like, without any obligation to buy.
Clicking on the drop-down menu will show you other licenses option you can choose from.
You can view our plans and pricing by simply hovering over the “Plans + Pricing” tab or by checking this link out: https://cloudmonitor.ai/pricing/
Step 3: Sign in to Microsoft Azure Marketplace
You will be prompted to sign in to Microsoft Azure Marketplace using your work, school or Microsoft account.
If you don’t have an account yet, you have the option to “Sign up for a free account”. Then just follow through to the next step in signing up with your email address and password.
You will then be redirected to the CloudMonitor Engine page once again with your account details shown on the upper right corner of the page. This means you’ve successfully logged in to your account and can now proceed with the installation process.
Step 4: Click on Create to proceed with the Installation
The next thing to do is click on the “Create” button and click the plan you wish to avail.
We will be using the “Always Free” plan for this guide:
Important note: You need to have an Azure subscription in order to proceed to the next step forward.
Step 5: Input Basic details
After clicking “create”, you will be required to enter the details on the following text fields.
Step 6: Create a Service Principal and Client Secret
The next step is to create a Service Principal and Client Secret. Here’s a guide in creating a service principal and client secret.
Step 7: Configure Fiscal Year, Currency, Timezone and Default Owner Email
After creating a service principal and client secret, you will need to set the following details:
- Start date of your Fiscal year
- Reporting Currency
- Default Owner Email
From the same “Configuration” tab, you will see the following note:
From here, you can either do either (or both) of the following:
- Enter your email address or the email address where you want your Power BI credentials to be sent ( SQL server name, Username, and Password)

What’s the Next Thing to do?
So now that you are already done setting up your Service Principal and Client Secret, you can then proceed to configure your service principal to monitor subscriptions.
